  • Reformer Pilates is performed on a sliding carriage bed with adjustable spring resistance, footbar, and straps. Compared to Mat Pilates, it offers more resistance variation, supports a wider range of exercises, and is generally faster to deliver visible strength and flexibility results. Both styles share the same core principles — control, breath, precision — but the Reformer adds dynamic resistance to almost every movement.

  • Yes. Reformer Pilates is one of the most beginner-friendly strength practices because the spring system supports your body through every movement, allowing you to build control and strength at your own pace. We recommend starting with a beginner-level class or a 1-1 induction with a qualified instructor so you learn the bed's mechanics safely.

  • Most practitioners notice improvements in posture, core strength, and flexibility within 2-3 sessions per week over 4-6 weeks. Consistency matters more than intensity — two well-coached sessions a week will outperform sporadic intense ones. Studios in our directory offer class packages designed around this frequency.

  • No prior experience is required. Reformer Pilates is appropriate for all fitness levels, and the spring resistance can be adjusted from very light to challenging. If you have an existing injury or medical condition, let your instructor know before class and consider booking a 1-1 first.

  • Fitted activewear is best so the instructor can see your alignment, and grippy socks (sometimes called Pilates socks or toe socks) are typically required for hygiene and grip on the carriage. Avoid loose clothing that could catch in the springs or straps. Most studios sell grip socks at reception if you forget yours.
