Watching the Next Generation of Reformer Pilates Instructors Take Shape
There is something genuinely interesting about watching a group of people go through instructor training together.
Our current intake has already moved through the Level 3 Mat Pilates Instructor course, and they are now progressing onto the Reformer Pilates Instructor course. Over the past few weeks, it has been brilliant to listen to them, watch them develop, and see how they support each other as the demands of the course increase.
And to be very clear, this is not an easy course.
Nor should it be.
Becoming a qualified Pilates instructor requires discipline, attention to detail, commitment and a willingness to be pushed outside your comfort zone. It is not just about learning a sequence of exercises and being able to deliver a class. It is about understanding movement, anatomy, posture, control, progression, regression, safety, cueing and how to work with different bodies in front of you.
The level of anatomy and physiology covered is serious. In fact, much of the A&P content is the same level of detail I used to see in the medical textbooks I sold in a previous life. So anyone coming into this course should be prepared to work, study and stay switched on.
But if you are comfortable with that, and if you are willing to put the effort in, the reward is significant.
You find yourself learning from Michael King, who if you didnāt know, if one of the very best in the industry, and then surrounded by a group of like-minded people who are on the same journey. That group dynamic matters. There is a real value in learning alongside others who are asking questions, making mistakes, improving, laughing through the tough bits, and encouraging each other along the way.
That has been one of the best parts of watching this current intake progress.
There is a shared commitment in the room. Everyone is there for a reason. Some are making a complete career change. Some are deepening their existing knowledge. Some are already thinking about where teaching could take them next. That mix creates a really positive environment, but also one where people are challenged to raise their own standards.
As this group moves through the Reformer course towards completion, it will be fascinating to see what route each person takes.
Some will focus solely on teaching, building experience and confidence across studios. Others may move into private sessions, specialist populations or more advanced training. And, in time, many will go on to open their own studios.
That is one of the most exciting parts for us.
At ReformerPilates.com, we are not just interested in helping people qualify and then leaving them to work it all out alone. We know that the journey from instructor to studio owner can be a big one. It involves teaching skill, commercial understanding, marketing, equipment, technology, community building and a huge amount of self-belief.
For those who want to take that path, we will be there to support them every step of the way.
Whether that is helping with studio setup, reformer beds, booking platforms, branding, marketing, community building or connecting them with other people in the industry, our aim is to support instructors long after the course has finished.
Because this industry needs excellent instructors.
It needs people who understand the work, respect the discipline and care about the experience they give to clients. It needs teachers who are properly trained, properly supported and confident enough to keep learning.
Watching this current group come through has been a reminder of just how much effort goes into becoming a good instructor.
It is not the easy route.
But for the right people, it can be a brilliant one.
